Xoft® Electronic Brachytherapy

Xoft® Electronic Brachytherapy for Non-Melanoma Skin Cancer

The Dermatology & Mohs Surgery Institute is pleased to offer Xoft® Electronic Brachytherapy (eBx), an advanced, non-surgical treatment option for select non-melanoma skin cancers. This innovative technology delivers low-energy X-rays directly to the cancer site, allowing for precise treatment while minimizing exposure to surrounding healthy tissue.

What Is Xoft® Electronic Brachytherapy?

Xoft® eBx is a form of targeted radiation therapy designed specifically for superficial skin cancers, such as basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. Using a specialized applicator placed directly over the lesion, low-energy X-rays are delivered in a highly controlled manner—destroying cancer cells at the source while preserving nearby skin.

Unlike traditional radiation therapy, Xoft® does not require a hospital visit or shielded treatment room and is performed conveniently in our office.

Who Is a Candidate for Xoft®?

Xoft® may be an excellent option for patients who:

  • Have select non-melanoma skin cancers
  • Prefer to avoid surgery
  • Are not ideal surgical candidates due to medical conditions
  • Have lesions in cosmetically or functionally sensitive areas such as the face, nose, ears, scalp, or legs

Your provider will determine if Xoft® is appropriate for you during a personalized consultation.

Benefits of Xoft® Treatment

  • Non-surgical – no incisions or stitches
  • Excellent cosmetic outcomes with minimal scarring
  • Precise, targeted therapy that protects healthy skin
  • Convenient in-office treatment
  • Minimal downtime with little disruption to daily activities

What to Expect During Treatment

Treatment is typically delivered over 8–12 short sessions, scheduled several times per week. Each session lasts only a few minutes. Because Xoft® is non-invasive, most patients tolerate treatment very well and are able to resume normal activities immediately.
