Not Your Mother’s Botox: Wrinkle Reduction for Today’s Generation

Looking into the mirror and seeing wrinkles, crow’s feet, or frown lines staring back at you can ruin even the best day. These signs of aging can begin appearing as early as age 35 and as late as age 55, or older.

Since aging is inevitable, finding the best way to reduce wrinkles and frown lines is a top priority for many people. A variety of wrinkle treatments are now available to accomplish this. The most common treatment that comes to many people’s mind is Botox, but there is another new and improved option to get your flawless, younger-looking skin back.

Let’s take a short look at the old solution and the new one.

The Old: Botox

Botox injections are one of the most commonly used treatments to temporarily make moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines look better in adult patients. Botox requires injections into the muscles that cause these annoying features.

It works by temporarily reducing muscle activity and reducing wrinkles. The treatment takes 10 minutes to complete and requires minimal downtime. Results often appear within 24 to 48 hours, lasting for nearly four months. The average cost of Botox is $385. It is FDA-approved and clinically safe to use.

The New: Jeuveau

Jeuveau, meaning “modern” or “up-to-date”, is a prescription medicine that is injected into facial muscles to temporarily improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows. Jeuveau prevents your nerves from telling your facial muscles to flex, thus eliminating those pesky frown lines. Not only does it prevent new wrinkles from forming, it also smoothes out existing ones.

More so than Botox, Jeuveau often appeals to a younger crowd who tend to see it as a new and improved Botox. As younger people begin to experiment with reducing facial lines, they are not leaning toward the old-school Botox injections. Botox is often thought to be for the “older” generation while Jeuveau is seen to be more modern and made for them.

While Botox is widely and commonly used, it is more expensive than Jeuveau because it is used for both cosmetic and therapeutic purposes. Jeuveau is used solely for cosmetic purposes and therefore comes with a more affordable price point. This aspect of Jeuveau makes it even more appealing to the younger crowd.

Common symptoms during and after treatment include localized pain, infection, inflammation, tenderness, swelling and possible bruising. On average, and similar to Botox, patients need just three Jeuveau treatments per year. Like Botox, Jeuveau is FDA approved and clinically safe.
