How to Reduce Wrinkles After They’ve Appeared

Signs of aging can creep up on you, and before you know it, you are noticing wrinkles and sagging skin. What can you do about it? You can start a good skincare routine and get fillers or Botox to help reduce the appearance of wrinkles. The dermatologists at the Dermatology & Mohs Surgery Institute share tips on how to reverse the signs of aging.

What to Know About Wrinkle Reduction

What Is Collagen?

Collagen is what keeps our skin tight and taut. It is naturally produced in our bodies, but as we age, it is produced less and less. As less of it is produced, it results in signs of aging such as wrinkles, fine lines, and sagging skin. Increasing collagen production is needed to help the skin become tight and taut again. Ways to increase collagen production include certain skincare products, fillers, or Botox.

Having a Good Skincare Routine

A good and consistent skincare routine can help reduce the appearance of wrinkles and other signs of aging as well as help increase collagen production. A good skincare routine includes using toner first. This helps to balance the pH in your skin. Then you will want to moisturize with an anti-aging moisturizer. Moisturizing keeps the skin hydrated and will give it a nice, healthy glow. Next, you will want to use retinol, which is best for reducing wrinkles and preventing new ones. Lastly, use an SPF of 30 or higher. This will ensure your skin is protected from the sun.

Dermal Fillers

If you aren’t scared of needles, dermal fillers may be a great option for reducing wrinkles. The most common fillers are Juvederm and Restylane. Fillers contain hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid helps to stimulate collagen production and works to reverse the aging process. They both are provided by a dermatologist and are quick procedures with no downtime. The filler is injected into the areas you would like to “tighten” up. Most often they are injected into the cheeks for volume, the lips for plumpness, crows’ feet to smooth them out, and the forehead to reduce wrinkles. Dermal fillers can last up to one year, but treatments would need to continue for long-term results.

Botox

Botox is similar to dermal fillers but can be injected before signs of aging even appear. When this is done, it continues to stimulate collagen production before wrinkles can start to appear. It is a great preventative measure to take before signs of aging occur. It can also be used once wrinkles appear. It is injected directly into your lines and wrinkles and results in a smooth face with no signs of aging. The pain is minimal, and the treatment is quick. Treatments will need to be continued to continue seeing results.

Having a good skincare routine, trying dermal fillers, and trying Botox can all help reduce wrinkles. You can do one option or combine all three to see what results you like best. You don’t have to show your age on your face; there are many solutions.
