How Dermal Optical Thermolysis (DOT) Can Help Your Skin This Winter

With winter comes snow, dry air and dehydrated skin from all the sun it endured over the summer. Thankfully, there is a solution. Dermal Optical Thermolysis (DOT) can help rehydrate your skin, get it back to normal and fix any other impurities you may have. Start treatment sooner rather than later before the winter comes along and causes any more issues. The dermatologists at Dermatology & Mohs Surgery Institute have all you need to know about this latest treatment including what it is, its benefits and more.

Identifying and Treating Dermal Optical Thermolysis

What is DOT Therapy?

DOT Therapy uses a laser that includes a skin resurfacing device to promote skin rejuvenation and other anti-aging benefits on the face. DOT Therapy can be performed on nearly any skin type and has minimal downtime. During treatment, a fractional CO2 laser penetrates the skin and vaporizes small areas while keeping other areas intact. The untouched areas help to aid in the recovery process. The heat from the laser causes a tightening of the collagen in the face. It also helps to promote more collagen production that will be noticeable around 30 days after treatment.

The treatment takes up to 30 minutes. After, the patient’s skin is cooled, and a topical treatment is applied. Some redness and peeling may occur for up to seven days after treatment and makeup should not be applied until then either. Most often, only one treatment is needed to see complete results. In severe cases, additional treatments may be needed. DOT Therapy treatments can cost $1,500 to $3,000 depending on the size of the area being treated, which is a small price to pay for the big benefits you will receive.

Benefits of DOT Therapy

Tightening of the collagen from DOT Therapy results in a younger appearance, improved skin texture, fixing sun damage and eliminating fine lines, wrinkles, and acne scars. Most of these impurities are results of less collagen production occurring from aging. Lack of collagen causes the skin to stretch, resulting in fine lines or wrinkles. With new collagen production, the skin’s strength increases again. This helps the face to stay tight and avoid fine lines and wrinkles from forming. If you experienced acne and have acne scarring to show for it, this treatment can help to eliminate those scars as the laser is used to smooth these areas. Additionally, the sun can cause significant damage, even when sunscreen is worn throughout the summer. DOT Therapy can help resurface and smooth your skin out to improve skin texture that may have previously been damaged from the sun. With acne scarring gone, no more wrinkles or fine lines, and a smooth face, you are sure to look years younger. DOT Therapy can help boost your confidence while reversing the aging process.
