Enabling Natural Healing through Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT)
Acne scarring, large pores, or sunspots can be embarrassing. Luckily, you may be a candidate for collagen induction therapy, a procedure that can finally get rid of your scars and sunspots for good and help you regain your confidence. This cost-effective, safe, and efficient treatment has become increasingly popular because of its exceptional results.
What is Collagen Induction Therapy?
Collagen induction therapy (CIT), also known as microneedling, is a minimally-invasive procedure designed to improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and scars. It works by stimulating the existing collagen in your face. CIT provides specific targeted treatments for acne scars, age/sun spots, and large pores.
Although collagen induction therapy can be performed at home through the use of a roller device, results will likely be seen when the actual microneedling treatment is performed by a dermatologist. Good candidates for CIT include those looking to rejuvenate their skin with a safe, quick, convenient, and non-invasive treatment. The procedure can cost anywhere from $100-$700 per session. Multiple sessions will be needed for optimal results, but the results are worth the time.
How it Works
Microneedling encourages your skin to produce more collagen through the pinpricks during the actual procedure. A topical anesthetic is applied roughly one hour before your 30-minute treatment to avoid any pain or discomfort from the pinpricks in the procedure. These pricks are so small that you will barely be able to see them when the procedure is complete. After the procedure, the revitalized tissue will result in a more even tone and texture for your skin, and potentially make your skin firmer than before.
The most common side effect of microneedling includes minor skin irritation directly following the procedure and some redness. There could also be some bleeding, bruising, or peeling. Little to no downtime is needed to recover after the procedure.
The Healing Process
The actual healing will take some time, however. Natural healing should include avoiding the sun for three to ten days. If your skin does get exposed to the sun, apply sunscreen as you are more sensitive to the sun after microneedling. Be gentle with your face, washing it with cool water and a gentle cleanser. Avoid any kind of anti-inflammatory medicine that can interfere with the body’s natural healing process. If you are experiencing discomfort, eat fresh pineapple to help and heighten the healing process.
Your skin may begin to peel three to five days after microneedling. If it does, keep it moisturized and avoid scratching or peeling it. Strenuous exercise should also be avoided during this time due to your open pores. After this healing period, you will finally get to experience the amazing results microneedling provides.
