Be Confident in Your Holiday Cocktail Dress with Laser Hair Removal Treatment

The holidays are just around the corner. They bring food, drinks, family, friends, and holiday parties. Finding the perfect cocktail dress to wear to the parties is one of the best parts of the holidays. When it is finally time to put the dress on though, you notice that stubborn leg stubble. The dermatologists at Dermatology & Mohs Surgery Institute don’t want this to be your reality. Prepare ahead of time with laser hair removal treatment.

What Is Laser Hair Removal and How Does it Work?

What is Laser Hair Removal Treatment

Laser hair removal treatment is the process of permanently eliminating unwanted body hair. Unlike shaving, plucking, waxing, or tweezing, laser hair removal destroys the hair follicle for good. Laser hair removal can be performed on just about any area of the body, on both men and women and on any skin type. Those with light body hair are not recommended to have the treatment as results will be minimal. The most common areas for laser hair removal include the legs, arms, stomach, back, upper lip or bikini line. Each treatment area will require three to seven sessions for permanent results. Sessions can be scheduled every six weeks. The cost of each session varies on the treatment area and the size of it.

How It Works

Prior to your appointment, there are steps you should take to prepare. It is best to eliminate shaving, plucking, waxing, and tweezing up to six weeks before your treatment. This helps the laser reach the root of the hair follicle. It is also recommended to avoid the sun for up to six weeks before and after treatment because it can cause complications. After you have followed these steps, you are ready for treatment.

As treatment begins a topical numbing agent may be used on the area being treated. You will also be required to wear eye protection provided by the dermatologist. Now treatment can begin. A dermatologist will use a highly concentrated laser on each treatment area to destroy the unwanted hair without damaging the surrounding skin. Some pain and discomfort may occur during treatment. Depending on the size of the treatment area the procedure can take five minutes to an area such as the upper lip or up to one hour for areas such as the back or legs. After treatment, aloe may be applied as well as ice to help with any pain. There is limited recovery time, other than some redness that may appear on the treated areas. Remember to wear sunscreen and steer clear of putting the treatment areas directly in the sun.

Whether it’s your first session or fifth session the treatment area will look and feel smoother than ever. You no longer will have to worry about forgetting to shave or wax before a big day or when you are in a time crunch.
